The night view of a city is a fun subject like a puzzle, while at the same time full of many meanings for me. When paltry, repetitive, unspecial things are called everyday life, people then interpret them with the standard of\u00a0 reality. But when everyday scenes are turned into a painting they must have totally different meanings. The daily reality in a painting does not represent everyday life like in a photograph but suggests a new point of view on everyday life by standing apart from life while emphasizing the role of looking at a different point of view in the city where I live.<\/p>\n
The sculpture-like materials in my work, plastic items and sheets, allow observers to continuously feel the flashy night view of a city. In addition the sculpture-like expression from the way the sheets are cut and added in layers reminds them of scenes from around their life and leads to remembering their own personal events. Then, as they turn these into motifs they work as important media to reinterpret what is confronted. I hope that many people can sympathize with my work including the breath and feelings of the ordinary people who live in a city. The scenes of a city imply both the history of the era and a personal history; this purposely reminds us of the spiritual scenes of this era where fragmented individuality and an analogue narrative coexist with the combination of a painting\u2019s perspective and flatness. Moreover, the process of understanding my emphasis on light and how this light is fragmented to make a composition are the perfect clues to reflect the history and lifestyle of a city and how technologies are used.<\/p>\n
In the creative process the background is filled in and sheets are added and cut with a knife on the canvas as my work is not depicted with the perspective of colors but rather the material of sheets is emphasized with itself being a flat sculpture. My work is a painting but not in realistic scenes but with the recombination of cut and added sheets instead of the traditional representative style of painting. It opens the possibility of having different interpretations depending on the observers. I hope people can look at a continuously changing city and its reality where we live from a different point of view, and allow fresh air to come into daily life.<\/p>\n
